This couple was ready to experiment from the very first meeting. The apartment was still under construction, time was tight, and the brief was a paradox: to make a restrained Japandi interior get along with the owner’s bold, eccentric paintings.

I have to admit, we turned the options over for a long time, but the puzzle refused to come together. In the end I took a risk and brought in a living-room collage that suited the painting perfectly yet crossed out every canon of the style. That was the point of no return. The clients said: “Yes, this is us.”

Japandi Apartment with a Hogwarts-Inspired Study in Limassol, Cyprus

From that moment on the clients stopped holding back. We reworked the layout to win a cosy entrance hall back from the open-plan space. We fitted a full-size bathtub where the developer had planned only a shower cabin. And in the hallway we deliberately gave up the ceiling light. Instead there is the soft glow of wall sconces and a play of shadows. Risky? Yes. But a home is a place to rest, not to squint at bright lamps.

The final chord was the owner’s request: “I want a study in the spirit of Hogwarts.” Not another word needed! Deep dark walls, wood, antique books and a chandelier with “floating” candles. This is the kind of place where you want to wrap yourself in a blanket and forget about the bustle of the outside world.

A seamless wooden floor tied all the rooms into one story — bold, cosy and very personal. We did not simply create an interior, we built a home that reflects their world. A home where magic is not a special effect but a state of mind.
